Payment Processing

Payment processing is a system that enables secure, real time processing of credit and debit card transactions, including:

• Authentication
• Verification

To accept credit cards you need to have a:

• Merchant account with a bank or processing organization
  
• A fulfillment company to transfer the transaction information to the processor

You can capture your customer's credit card information by:

• Swiping the card in person
• Call center phone processing
• Mail
• Fax
• On-line using a shopping cart or order form

You will need to specify the way you will capture payment information on your merchant account application.

Transactions can be transferred using:

• A terminal like retail stores use
• Processing software that transmits the transactions to the processing center
• Online "real time" credit card processing gateway systems like Authorize Net or Verisign Pay Flow
  

The payment processing center obtains the approval (or decline). A confirmation message is sent to the client. Once authorized, the funds are deposited into the merchant's bank account.
